Unlocking the Advantages of Pterostilbene: A Highly Bioavailable Nutritional Powerhouse

Pterostilbene - Um suplemento benéfico com alta biodisponibilidade

O pterostilbeno é um composto natural que pode ser encontrado em mirtilos, uvas, bem como em alimentos e bebidas processados feitos a partir dessas frutas (ou seja, vinho ou sumo de uva). Uma variedade de estudos clínicos, randomizados e duplo-cegos indicam que a ingestão suplementar de pterostilbeno pode proporcionar vários benefícios para a saúde. A sua estrutura molecular é semelhante à do resveratrol, e ambos se enquadram na categoria de fitoalexinas (compostos produzidos pelas plantas para afastar parasitas e insetos). Pode-se argumentar que o pterostilbeno é o melhor suplemento dos dois, pois é mais potente e mais biodisponível.

 

Absorção

Em contraste, ao resveratrol, foi demonstrado que o pterostilbeno possui maior hidrofobicidade e absorção oral. Comparado com a estimativa de 20% de biodisponibilidade oral do resveratrol, o pterostilbeno tem cerca de 80% de biodisponibilidade oral em doses entre 56 e 168mg/kg. A taxa de depuração do pterostilbeno indica que ele se bioacumula eficientemente no corpo, e seus grupos metoxi gêmeos permitem que ele se difunda nas células mais facilmente do que o resveratrol suplementado.

 

Benefícios para a saúde do pterostilbeno

 

Reduzir a Pressão Arterial

Este estudo sugere que o pterostilbeno reduz a pressão arterial em adultos com níveis elevados de colesterol (hipercolesterolemia). Embora o pterostilbeno tenha tido alguns efeitos adversos sobre o colesterol, esses efeitos foram mitigados pelo extrato de semente de uva. Estes achados apoiam a teoria de que o extrato de semente de uva e o pterostilbeno devem ser suplementados juntos (assim como se faz ao comer uvas).

 

Reduzindo a Neuroinflamação (Inflamação do sistema nervoso)

Neste estudo, foi demonstrado que 10-30 μM de pterostilbeno reduzem a produção de óxido nítrico microglial sem eliminar diretamente os radicais de óxido nítrico. Faz isso inibindo a fosforilação de IκBα. Estes efeitos mostraram-se ligeiramente mais potentes do que os do resveratrol.

 

Glicose no Sangue e Diabetes

Vários estudos indicam que o pterostilbeno pode melhorar os níveis de glicose no sangue:

 

- Ao suplementar a dieta de um hamster hipercolesterolémico com 25 microgramas/kg de pterostilbeno, os níveis de glicose no sangue diminuíram em 14%.

 

- Em ratos diabéticos, 40mg/kg durante seis semanas resultou não só na redução dos níveis de glicose no sangue, mas também num aumento concomitante de insulina.

 

- Em menor grau, estes benefícios estenderam-se até mesmo a ratos saudáveis, reduzindo a glicose no sangue em 6,3%.

 

- Em ratos hiperglicémicos, os efeitos da suplementação com 40mg/kg de pterostilbeno podem ser comparados a uma ingestão de 500mg/kg de metformina.

 

Função cognitiva

Foi demonstrado que o pterostilbeno melhora a cognição em ratos idosos quando suplementado durante 12-13 semanas. As melhorias cognitivas mostraram ter uma correlação com as concentrações de pterostilbeno no hipocampo,

 

É seguro suplementar com pterostilbeno?

Um estudo submeteu ratos a doses de 3000mg/kg de pterostilbeno todos os dias. (O que é 500 vezes a ingestão humana estimada.) Estas doses não exerceram nenhuma toxicidade clínica significativa.

 

Mas e quanto aos humanos?
Num ensaio clínico em humanos, os sujeitos do teste suplementaram 250mg de pterostilbeno, tomados em doses de 125mg, duas vezes por dia, ao longo de 6-8 semanas. Não apresentaram sinais clínicos ou bioquímicos de toxicidade.

 

Por que combinar com Extrato de Semente de Uva?

Conforme mencionado acima, houve alguns casos em que o pterostilbeno tomado isoladamente causou um ligeiro aumento no LDL. Este efeito colateral foi anulado quando o extrato de semente de uva foi suplementado juntamente com o pterostilbeno. Fundamentalmente falando, na natureza, as sementes de uva e o pterostilbeno são encontrados juntos dentro da mesma peça de fruta e têm sido consumidos juntos pelos humanos há milénios.
