Unlocking the Advantages of Pterostilbene: A Highly Bioavailable Nutritional Powerhouse

Pterostilbeno - Un suplemento beneficioso con alta biodisponibilidad

El pterostilbeno es un compuesto natural que se puede encontrar en arándanos, uvas, así como en alimentos y bebidas procesados hechos de estas frutas (es decir, vino o jugo de uva). Una variedad de estudios clínicos, aleatorizados y doble ciego indican que la ingesta suplementaria de pterostilbeno puede proporcionar varios beneficios para la salud. Su estructura molecular es similar a la del resveratrol, y ambos caen bajo la categoría de fitoalexinas (compuestos que son producidos por las plantas para defenderse de parásitos e insectos). Se podría argumentar que el pterostilbeno es el mejor suplemento de los dos, ya que es más potente y más biodisponible.

 

Absorción

En contraste, con el resveratrol, se demostró que el pterostilbeno tiene una mayor hidrofobicidad y absorción oral. En comparación con el estimado 20% de biodisponibilidad oral del resveratrol, el pterostilbeno tiene cerca de 80% de biodisponibilidad oral en dosis entre 56 y 168mg/kg. La tasa de eliminación del pterostilbeno indica que se bioacumula eficientemente en el cuerpo, y sus grupos metoxi gemelos le permiten difundirse en las células más fácilmente que el resveratrol suplementado.

 

Beneficios para la salud del pterostilbeno

 

Reducción de la presión arterial

Este estudio sugiere que el pterostilbeno reduce la presión arterial en adultos con niveles altos de colesterol (hipercolesterolemia). Aunque el pterostilbeno tuvo algunos efectos adversos sobre el colesterol, estos efectos fueron mitigados por el extracto de semilla de uva. Estos hallazgos apoyan la teoría de que el extracto de semilla de uva y el pterostilbeno deben ser suplementados juntos (tal como se hace al comer uvas).

 

Reducción de la neuroinflamación (inflamación del sistema nervioso)

En este estudio, se demostró que 10-30 μM de pterostilbeno reduce la producción de óxido nítrico microglial sin eliminar directamente los radicales de óxido nítrico. Lo hace inhibiendo la fosforilación de IκBα. Estos efectos demostraron ser ligeramente más potentes que los del resveratrol.

 

Glucosa en Sangre y Diabetes

Varios estudios indican que el pterostilbeno puede mejorar los niveles de glucosa en sangre:

 

- Al suplementar la dieta de un hámster hipercolesterolémico con 25 microgramos/kg de pterostilbeno, los niveles de glucosa en sangre disminuyeron en un 14%.

 

- En ratas diabéticas, 40 mg/kg durante seis semanas resultó no solo en una reducción de los niveles de glucosa en sangre, sino también en un aumento concomitante de insulina.

 

- En menor grado, estos beneficios incluso se extendieron a las ratas sanas, reduciendo la glucosa en sangre en un 6.3%.

 

- En ratas hiperglucémicas, los efectos de la suplementación con 40 mg/kg de pterostilbeno pueden compararse con una ingesta de 500 mg/kg de metformina.

 

Función cognitiva

Se ha demostrado que el pterostilbeno mejora la cognición en ratas envejecidas cuando se suplementa durante 12-13 semanas. Las mejoras cognitivas mostraron tener una correlación con las concentraciones de pterostilbeno en el hipocampo,

 

¿Es seguro suplementar con pterostilbeno?

Un estudio sometió a ratones a dosis de 3000 mg/kg de pterostilbeno cada día. (Lo cual es 500 veces la ingesta humana estimada). Estas dosis no ejercieron ninguna toxicidad clínica significativa.

 

¿Pero qué pasa con los humanos?
En un ensayo clínico en humanos, los sujetos de prueba suplementaron 250 mg de pterostilbeno tomados en dosis de 125 mg, dos veces al día, durante el transcurso de 6-8 semanas. No mostraron signos clínicos o bioquímicos de toxicidad.

 

¿Por qué combinar con extracto de semilla de uva?

Como se mencionó anteriormente, hubo algunos casos en los que el pterostilbeno tomado por sí solo causó un ligero aumento en el LDL. Este efecto secundario se anuló cuando se suplementó con extracto de semilla de uva junto con pterostilbeno. Fundamentalmente hablando, en la naturaleza, las semillas de uva y el pterostilbeno se encuentran juntos dentro de la misma fruta y han sido consumidos juntos por los humanos durante milenios.
